2013 has seen the launch of new lesson manuals for the youth: YW, YM and Sunday School. People have long been requesting that the youth manuals be updated. But there has also been criticism that the YW manuals are all written passively in comparison to YM, to reinforce sexual stereotypes. The manuals are also much more flexible for teachers. For Sunday School, there are 5 lessons to choose from for the month of January, and the lesson plans are very open.

If you have taught using the new manuals, what do you think? If you have kids being taught by the new manuals, what do they think? Discuss.
For my first choice, none of the above fitted, so:
Finally, YM and YW are studying the same subjects. I wish they were be using equal materials.
I think the overhaul was long over due, but looking at the lessons online it seemed like an uphill battle for parents to keep tabs on what is being taught to their children.
Long overdue!!! Thank you for the update
As much as we needed new manuals I’m not sure if this is going to be successful. It’s a step in the right direction but I’m afraid that unless you are a natural teacher, this is going to fail. It seems to depend on the teacher facilitating a discussion based on a monthly theme. Unless you have very motivated youth and an exceptional teacher I just don’t see this working. It reminds me of when the Church eliminated the missionary discussions completely and we were to teach solely by the Spirit. That didn’t last too long as I recall. I am optimistic that we are on the right track with making changes.
