Some people have lots of Facebook friends. Some people are more selective. People with over 1000 friends have occasionally been called Facebook hos. There are probably Facebook hermits, too. And there are even Facebook avoiders among us. Where do you fall in the spectrum of Facebook friendliness?

For privacy purposes, I don’t Facebook.
I have a very very good friend that I met on a cooking blog possibly 10 years ago. …well before the advent of FaceBook. We have maintained our relationship across a lot of miles (she lives in Oakland, I live in Los Angeles) and a lot of events. We know one another’s spouses and kids. We make the trek to have some face-to-face time when we can. My life would not be the same if I hadn’t “met” her. So I’m not going to disparage internet relationships. But I’ve never gotten FB.
People have asked me to friend them. Once I signed up but I still never got what it’s about so eventually I closed the account. “Talking” to an entire audience as opposed to having a genuine conversation with one person about what’s relevant to both of you seems very superficial to me. So, in the trade off of privacy v knowing who got a new car or is expecting a visitor, I’ll take e-mail and blogs of people with common interests.
I’ll accept anyone I know or have connections with. If their posts are lame/annoying, I’ll hide them from my timeline. If they are outright offensive, I’ll defriend them. I may hide certain posts of mine for only close friends/family, but I rarely have need to.
I have many MANY valuable friendships with people I’ve only ever known online.
My family lives far away. My friends over the years end up moving away. So, Facebook is wonderful because I get to see what is going on in their lives. I get to see the kids that used to come over grow up and have a peek at my friends’ homes and how are they are. It’s wonderful.
I have always had a person policy to only accept friend requests from former, not current employees. Once when I did accept someone after his office was reassigned to my peer’s group, he relocated from FL to AZ, and he was suddenly in my group again.
What a waste of time
Yea, Will, blogging is so much more productive.
55 voters with 11 who aren’t on Facebook leaving 44 who are on Facebook. Of those 44, 42 ignore friend request when they don’t know the person at all. So, 2 out of 44 voters do accept friend requests from people they don’t even know? That’s who I would call a Facebook ho. And 13 out of 44 voters accept friend requests from people they don’t like? What do we call those people?
