Two of mine aren’t on your list:
The Snowman
A Muppet Christmas Carol
I voted Christmas Carol and I meant the Muppets version 🙂
Also you missed our favorite one: The Family Man w Nic Cage & Tea Leoni…also While You Were Sleeping
I second Muppet Christmas Carol!
We watched It’s a Wonderful Life with my kids, and wow, that is a weird movie. The dialogue is just insane. And when George shakes Mr. Potter’s hand and then looks at it with disgust they laughed out loud.
I think the musical “Scrooge” starring Albert Finney should also be up there.
Missing Bill Murray’s Scrooged! It’s a family staple.
I highly recommend Nativity Story with Keisha Castle-Hughes as Mary and Oscar Isaac as Joseph – really sweet portrayal of their relationship.
We love Muppet Christmas Carol.
Also have a tradition of watching Little Women (Winona Ryder/Susan Sarandon/Christian Bale version) over Christimas.
Allan, we watched that one year, and all of us laughed hysterically at the point he fell into the grave. Not sure why they felt they needed to change the story like that, and we found it impossible to take seriously thereafter.
Will second the Nativity Story.
I was going to say A Christmas Story three times until Hedgehog reminded me of The Snowman. I haven’t played that since my kids were kids but now that I think of it, I guess I’ll be singing the score in my head for the next month. …and loving it all over again.
So, put me down for both one and a half times.
My kids (and I) love Muppet Christmas Carol. Probably our favorite.
How did White Christmas not make the list?! It’s only the best Christmas movie ever.
Bourne Identity for the third and someone needs to vote for Die Hard as well.
I added some movies to the list. (I feel bad, never seen Scrooged, White Christmas, the Snowman….)
Here, MH. It’s not that long and I know you’ll enjoy it.
Well, that didn’t seem to work but just google “The Snowman, video”.
Christmas with the kranks is hilarious too
‘Twas the night before Christmas, the old ’60’s animated musical movie with little mice and the clock maker.
I’m glad others spoke up for Muppets Christmas Carol. The George C. Scott version is good, too.
Home Alone would be on the list of worst movies ever. Worst Christmas movie, worst Labor Day movie, worst Flag Day movie, worst movie of any kind, it doesn’t matter. I hope never again to see another frame of that movie. I’d rather spend two and a half hours watching grass grow. At least photosynthesis and mitosis are halfway interesting.
Die Hard is the best Christmas of all time.
A distant second and third is Home Alone and the Muppets Christmas Carol.
The obvious worst movie of all time is Prancer. My mom still loves to watch it every year.
Mortimer I thought I was the only one who still loved that movie: “come on old Kris Kringle down the Milky Way 🎶”
I also love Fred Claus. I cry at the end every single time. Maybe bc smash as a foster kid gets a family (former foster parent) & the bit abt how there are no bad kids. 😭
I have never seen Die Hard. That came out in my no rated r days.
Kristine,
I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves ’twas the night…! It seems to be quite forgotten : (
The Year without a Santa Claus.
Gremlins.
While you were sleeping is a traditional movie here. I was also partial to the Marlo Thomas remake of ‘Its a wonderful life’ called, ‘It happened one Christmas’, though the only place I’ve found it is on you tube.
We tend to go through all the Christmas Carol movies –
Mr Magoo
Muppet
George C Scott
Patrick Stewart
Hated the Jim Carey version – it seemed to be made just to say “3-d is the future!”
Then there’s “Charlie Brown Christmas”
Snowball Express.
Rigel – I forgot that Marlo Thomas remake! Good stuff. Obviously, another Christmas staple not on the list for some reason is Love, Actually. People are gaga for this movie, and despite its clear misogyny, I admit I was entertained by parts of it.
