Mormon app on Roku.
BYUtv on satellite TV. Internet or church for Priesthood session. I have not decided yet.
I will look on this and other LDS blogs for alerts to interesting, non-standard, or otherwise unexpected comments/talks by the GAs. The same-old-same-old is so nearly universal at conference (and in their defense they are talking to TBMs and don’t want to rock anyone’s boat) that I can’t bear all of it.
Using the internet here in South Africa to watch the disappointment of 3 more white guys added to Q15! Yes same old same old, it seems that’s all they have to preach. The church remains mired in the mud.
#4 – As much as I would have liked to see at least ONE of the newly-minted Apostles be decidedly non-European and/or Anglo in appearance and country of origin, I’m satisfied that the Lord knows what He’s doing with regard to selection of His Apostles.
Unlike you, Howard, I don’t presume to judge by the so-called wisdom of men, particularly those of a politically-liberal bent, as you seem to have. When it’s all wrapped up, we’ll see who proverbially bet on the right horse.
Nice, Douglas. You even used ‘so-called’ in your self righteous dig. Well played.
Douglas,
White and delightsome leadership smacks of apartheid no matter how hard Oaks tries to convince us there is no up or down in the church. The church is mired, stuck in it’s own egocentric ways. Are you really arguing some negative eternal consequence implied to throwing a bone to the underclass? Or perhaps you just haven’t thought this through? Perhaps the church should create an auxiliary for people who are brown and delightsome, another for people who are black and delightsome etc.and placate them the way they placate women so the good ole boy isn’t threatened and the conservative male country club can continue in it’s traditional ways. Wink, nod.
I am not sure it is fair to call Elder Renlund same-old-same-old. Yes, his skin is indeed white, but his background is closer to Pres. Uchtdorf.
His parents are immigrants from Scandinavia and took him to Sweden as a missionary, so I am assuming that he speaks Swedish.
Also, his wife is a lawyer and pretty amazing

Beyond skin color, there was a lot of diversity represented on Saturday. It was a joy to hear Sister Marriott’s accent, and the many personal conversion stories–not sure I have ever heard from so many in a single day.
Projecting LDS Membership Growth:
The most favorable conditions for rapid membership growth and moderate to high convert retention exist in Sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania, and South Asia as populations exhibit high receptivity…

Naismith, I was pretty excited about Elder Renlund. I enjoyed his testimony too.
It comes to something though to be excited on account of his wife, especially considering the lack of ecclesiastical position or authority of the wives. I had also found and read her interview, and was taken aback by the training she said she had given in Africa. If we’re not going to be undermining the auxiliary leaders we really need a better structure and understanding of how GA wives fit in terms of church governance.
I’ve wondered how many members from Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa are in a financial position to leave everything and devote their time and energy to serving the Lord as General Authorities do. Surely personal finances are a practical consideration when reviewing who is worthy to serve in such demanding positions.
I’ll watch the four sessions on tv and I’ll go to church to watch the priesthood session for the pie.
“Yes same old same old,”
Thank goodness
Really?
I suspect one or two or even three could actually be found from Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, or Africa who are in a financial position to leave everything and devote their time and energy to serving the Lord!
When Jesus said sell your stuff, give to the poor and follow me he didn’t say “IF you can afford it!”
Naismith just wanted to clarify that I was excited at least in part on account of his wife. Rereading this morning, it didn’t look to me as though that had come over, and I didn’t want you to feel I was getting at you…
12. Rich: There was pie?
#12,16 – It was a WONDERFUL day for pie (or whatever you chose to stuff your ‘pie hole’ with, as long as you got SPIRITUALLY fed). Just ask Seth MacFarlane…or maybe not…
Wilt #16:
There’s always pie and ice cream.
