With the death of L. Tom Perry and Boyd K. Packer, there are two openings in the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. That hasn’t happened since 1984 when Elders Nelson and Oaks replaced LeGrand Richards and Mark E. Peterson. Nelson is next in line to become prophet. (While they were both younger back then, they were still both follically-challenged.)
General Conference is just a few weeks away. Now is your time to be heard! Who should be the next two apostles? Yes, we’ve listed several, but you only get 2 choices because there are only 2 vacancies! What choices did we miss?
[poll id = 509]

Actually in 2004 Elders Uchdorf and Bednar were called in the same conference to replace Elders Haight and Maxwell.
Gosh. If it is someone from Australia then the church definitely is not true.
Matthew Holland, UVU prez (always fun to have a father-son duo in the quorum as in decades past)
Darius Gray.
Donald Hallstrom, Claudio Costas, Ronald Rasband, or Marcos Aidukaitis.
My dark horse candidate is Mitt Romney. Imagine the turmoil that would cause in the bloggernacle. (OTOH, it would be less controversial than Glenn Beck or Harry Reid. Can you imagine the sustaining vote on these last two? !)
I’m thinking Soares and Rasband, but all bets are off until I hear what Carter Hall predicts.
Bishop Causse or Elder Massimo De Feo (Italian area authority).
Elder De Feo loves good music. When he attended our stake conference a year or so back, he asked for the very excellent musical items to be repeated).
I think they’ll go with L. Whitney Clayton and Allan Packer. I’d have an easier time with Matthew Holland and a dark horse (?).
I voted for Hawk. In for a penny, in for a pound.
Uchtdorf’s even handsomer twin.
Hawkgrrl forever!!!
And Mitch Mayne…..
Batman.
My other vote is hawkgrrl, who should also have seniority.
Packer and Clayton are non-starters. Just no. I mean, never say never, but I think both come with far too much baggage, and Packer is such an obvious nepotistic move I don’t think it’s happening. I believe Callister is likewise tainted. If I’m wrong, the upside is that I can cut 10 more minutes of GC in good conscience.
Hawkgrrl is in 3rd! Come on people, she should be in first!!!!
If some from Australia gets it…the church is not true… Harsh!!! Look it’s not out of the realm of possibilities, Elder Terry Vincent is a genuinely nice bloke. Will tow the corporate line, but, a nice bloke all the same. He spoke a few conferences ago… The attraction for USA leadership of the church looking at Australians is that we are, and are seen as, ultra ultra conservative. Nothing but white shirts (referred to as the uniform of the priesthood here), no coke and meetings about meetings. Someone is ripe for the picking.
Vinson should get a do-over speaking in conference anyway to make up for the pesky fly that wouldn’t leave his face alone last time. Such discipline.
Darius would be a great choice, especially at his age and health. He probably only has a short time left so that they could have their symbolism and yet still make bold strides.
I’d really expected Richard Oteno by now. /sigh. Don’t know what happened there.
A reincarnated Reed Smoot.
Hawkgrrl, I’d like to see you and April Young Bennett in there together, but you may need to settle for the bloggernacle vote.
Realistically, my picks are perceived well by the powers that be precisely b/c of what the bloggernacle labeled baggage.
I voted for Hawkgrrrl and me.
When I would have to give a talk I would want to have Hawkgrrrl check my research.
I’m kind of thinking this won’t work.
Whatever.
Wild Card: Denver Snuffer Jr.
Ann Dibb
I vote for Terryl Givens and Nathaniel Givens. (Or Terryl and Fiona if we’re going really out on a limb.)
L. Whitney Clayton seems to be high profile lately, and I’m fairly sure many would enjoy seeing the reaction in the bloggernacle were he to be called. I’m not usually familiar with the men they pick to be in Q12, though, so I’m ruling him out. A native Spanish-speaker from Central or South America would be awesome. Any non-Caucasian would be monumental.
I’m just glad that I didn’t see my name on the short list. The Church is not THAT desperate for talent.

How about Julie Rowe and Glenn Beck? That would really bring the tradition of prophesy back into the church.
Larry Echohawk.
I’ll stick with my prediction several months ago on this blog; Robert C Gay and someone from either South America or Asia
I think Donald Hallstrom would be a good replacement for Packer given his harsh personal-level outreach to ‘the gays’.
Vai Sikahema
Jon Huntsman, Jr.
My more serious prediction, rather than speculate the actual selectees, is that at least one will be from outside North America, and likely someone with some African heritage. There are several brethren that would fit that criteria.
It wouldn’t let me vote for hawkgrrl twice. 🙂
Kim Clark/Whitney Clayton
Russell Osguthorpe, Elder Claudio Costa, Edward Dube, Elder Bruce D. Porter. Actually I can think of more people I wouldn’t want as Apostle!
Sheri Dew, but it might mean a step-down in power for her.
Lawrence E. Corbridge.
Would love to see Caussee but I would guess it is too soon since he just arrived in the presiding bishopric.
Kim Clark is the strongest bet. Church school head. Kept a low profile and didn’t shake things up at byu-I. Took a huge professional hit at the request of the church. Conservative.
Some non-American pick but I bet it will be a white guy from somewhere just because I think there is an aversion to a the very idea of a “diversity” pick as a criteria and they select out of their networks. I don’t know of any of non-white dudes that are sufficiently embedded in the informal networks…yet.
If it is Whitney Clayton or Callister…well then…we know retrenchment is in full swing which, while sad, would be a nice thing to know.
Rah, Clark would be full on retrenchment, too. Remember anklegate?
Callister and Clayton have way too much political baggage.
Callister for his talk on morality that lighted off a firestorm of controversy in the bloggernacle.
Clayton for his close association with the wave of church disciplinary actions related to prominent feminist/non-orthodox Mormons.
To select either of them would signal that the highest levels of Church leadership are stepping away from further accommodating the feminist agenda in the Church, and that further hard-line positions on orthodoxy can be expected.
I suspect we’ll get more of a Holland/Uchtdorf personality, which is a good thing.
Matthew Holland, besides being a current apostle’s son, would have extra cred as the former chairman of the National Organization for Marriage, the LDS/Catholic front group which is still desperately trying to prevent same sex couples from legally exercising their Constitutional rights.
Glen Beck would be a fantastic choice, forever cementing the image which Mr. Monson has been creating for the LDS church during his reign. It would also encourage all the fence-sitters to flee for their own freedom and well-being.
Seriously though, I’d lay money on L. Whitney Clayton. Not only has he been willing to persecute feminists and non-orthodox Mormons, but he also was one of the “point men” in Monson’s crusade against gays and lesbians. He’s precisely the legacy Mr. Monson would want to leave in his final dotage.
Ouch Nick, rather harsh.
As an observation, L. Clayton Whitney’s recent talks have been running on BYU-TV (why him as opposed to other 70’s or 12?) and his book has been promoted lately at Deseret Book. So has Callister’s.
Just sayin.
Tony Parker
Retired Army sargeant (can follow orders when motivated)
African American married to a Samoan. Kids- good and some wild
Former Stake President, Bishop and AAS (maybe current)
Uses old Southern style preaching- Will keep you awake
Probably worse (better?) than J. Golden Kimball
He would definitely shake things up in Salt Lake-in a good way

”
Dave, make sure you always pay your taxes because if you don`t a judge will send you to Australia for Penile Servitude!
Mr Aguero from Argentina, former area prez counselor, is a top candidate because the first presidency took him to peru to “translate” for Utchdorf when there are plenty of good translators in the Peru area. Oddly enough Utchdorf`s first meeting with Aguero was there in Peru, where he got to know him better.
what baggage? does Clayton have?
But no John Dehlin will be called up to change mormon doctrine on gay marriage, maybe?
Thinking it over it will probably be two middle aged, white, ex lawyer or business man or similar…. a revolution would be another doctor like Nelson was.
My hope is a South American/Causse/Echohawk/Givens/Black Horse (fingers crossed)
really skeered it might be Clayton
My earlier suggestion was “Terryl Givens and Nathaniel Givens. (Or Terryl and Fiona if we’re going really out on a limb.)”
I now revise that to suggest all three.
I guess we can look for three now that elder Scott has passed away. Condolences to his family.
I would love to see someone like Terryl Givens, Richard Bushman, or Richard Turley in the q12.
