In the church it is easy to say we believe in Christ, yet at the same time to act as if we just don’t personally need him. That is, we believe in repentance for everyone (else) but nothing about us individually needs redemption or change.
So we can give others a good deal of advice, but we don’t need any ourselves. We can make suggestions on how everyone else needs to overcome their weaknesses, their savage patriarchy or radical feminism (or any other set of ideologies or actions) but we don’t make any suggestions to change ourselves.
That is basically a denial of Christ. Insidious and much too common.
For the new year I am resolved to think more, again, of my own need to repent and less about other people. That is my new year’s resolution.
What are your resolutions for the new year?

Not to make snarky comments on blogs…..
To slowly but surely continue to distance myself from the cult of Mormonism: and devote myself to reaching for the divine within my own heart and mind. The days of Mormon Busy Work (MBW) are over for me.
I generally avoid making formal New Year’s resolutions. Nothing holy about that on my part. January, early January in particular, is simply not a time I find especially motivating. But I appreciate the gist of this post a great deal.
Going forward, I intend to continue to avoid posting most of what I feel the impulse to post on social networks. And, on a somewhat related note, I will continue to seek opportunities to engage in meaningful face to face interactions.
Happy New Year, Wheat and Tares!
