I had a seminary teacher that told me to pay attention to pronouns. I just came across a confusing one in Genesis: 5:1-2
In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called *their* name Adam…
God called Eve Adam? Is this a mistranslation, or is there something more to the story? I’m not aware that Joseph Smith ever changed this verse when he did the JST.

Looks like most translations go ahead and translate Adam here into its Hebrew meaning, “man” or “human.”

Just google “called them Adam” and you’ll find this explained multiple times. Also, don’t forget that the Jewish creation stories (two different stories in the OT) were borrowed from other cultures and things got garbled along the way, like when kids say “Hail Mary, full of grapes, …”. The translators weren’t necessarily fully familiar with the origin language and culture, repeated oral or written transmission, etc.
What’s with the corny picture 1950’s Leave it to Beaver picture? I hope that is tongue in cheek.

A simple link.
I Wonder why Joseph Smith didn’t correct that?
Nothing to correct.
@mh
Because he was too busy introducing errors?
Can’t get past that illustration. Is this serious?
The first people were black, and Jewish scholars wouldn’t have imagined them looking like they just came out of SuperCuts, a tanning bed, and a shower at the gym.
Humans who look at God’s face die instantly, soooo….
Why is God so wimpy, and why does God wear clothes, long hair (with a perm!), and a beard when humans, made in God’s image, are naked and immaculately groomed?
Oh. I get it. The painter beamed *Jesus* back from the NT for a quick consult.
Looks like the Congo jungle, with giraffe, tiger… wait… what?
Gasp! Eve’s shoulders are showing! She’s just asking to be a licked cupcake!
Artistic license or propaganda?
Perhaps there were multiple Adams? Confirms evolution?
Absolutely agree, nothing to correct. Both were Adam until eve received a new name. Chew on that for a minute.
Moses 4:26 for those of you who want to really pursue name-relationships.
Moses 4:26 “And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living; for thus have I, the Lord God, called the first of all women, which are many.”
Not sure that helps much if you think about it.
That scripture is similar to Genesis 3:20 (which is where we learn Eve’s name for the first time. Prior to that she was simply called “woman”.
I think Guy had a post about Adam being the mother of all living.
If Eve was created from Adam, he should be the mother of Eve, and therefore the mother of all living, right? Eve wasn’t a mother yet in Moses 4 or Genesis 3 (though I suppose this could reference a prophecy.) Adam must have said “Once is enough! I hate pregnancy! Let’s let women do it from now on!”
The name “Eve” is referenced in Genesis 3:20 & 4:1, before Genesis 5:2 where they are both referred to as Adam.
In rabbinic writings and the Dead Sea Scrolls , Adam is a perfect human before his exile from Eden, but is diminished in stature when exiled. According to some Jewish mystical traditions, the original glory of Adam can be regained through mystical contemplation of God.
