The LDS Bible Dictionary for Uzzah states
“Strength. Slain for touching the Ark (2 Sam. 6:6); called Uzza (1 Chr. 13:9). The penalty may appear to us severe, but it must be remembered that the Ark was a sacred repository, and the people had been clearly warned that only designated persons could touch the Ark, and the warned also of the consequences of disobedience.”
I think this penalty is not only severe, but was the ancient people’s attempts to justify a strange occurrence. Do you think that this penalty is really Godly?

Thinking people believe the Ark was in part an energy storage device such as a capacitor for storing and discharging electricity. Electricity would not have been understood in that time so God gets credited with the death. Mormons like to twist this into a prohibition against attempting to steady the church but so far I have not been struck dead so I favor the capacitor explanation!
Pseudo-scientific nutballs think the ark was an energy storage device. Thinking people agree with me. (See what I did there?)
Counter-narrative to the usual “steadying the ark” usage is found at http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/2008/06/uzzah-killed-for-blind-obedience/
I do see what you did there Aaron, you’re so smart.
I prefer the Lego version of this story:
